He was baptized on the 7th of February 1860 in Falkenburg, Germany. Hermann took Bertha Freitag of Brickholz, Germany, daughter of Samuel Ferdinand Freitag and Johanna Caroline Schwanz as his bride. They were married on the 10th of September 1878 in Comal County, Texas by Pastor Oakar Samuns. During this marriage they were blessed with three children: Augusta Erna Louisa, Heinrich Franz Reinhold and Emil Franz Heinrich. There were several more children born to this couple but they died at an early age. Together in 1884, Hermann and Bertha bought 272 acres if land for $2400.50 with a down payment of $900.50. Later in 1886 they purchased an additional 160 acres where the family of five lived until the death of Bertha. After 2 1/2 years without a wife Hermann married Augusta Teresa Luise Muller on the 2nd of September 1890 in Guadalupe County, Texas. There were two sons born of this marriage: Wilhelm Franz Richard and Julius Hermann Otto. Augusta died on the 25th of August 1897. On the 21st of July 1898 Hermann married Amelia Schmidt in Guadalupe County, Texas. There were two adopted children: Gustave C Koepp and Erna Adela Wilhelmine Koepp, and seven children from this marriage: Albert Franz Herman, Bertha Augusta Emilyn, Franz Richard Kar, Fritz Walter, Linda Augusta Wilhelmine, Walter Heinrich Herman and Earnest Herman. Hermann lived in Guadalupe County, Texas until his death on the 3rd of March, 1931. He is buried in the Christ Lutheran of Elm Creek Cemetery.
