C. Seguin, Texas Prepared for the internet by Wanda Qualls Feb 1, 2005 Farmers destroying cotton Plow under portion of crop under government plan starting Thuesday. Cotton destruction work started in Guadalupe County Tuesday, Folowing the issuance of emergency permits by County Agent S. Whitsett. Permits were issued to the farmers in the northern part of the county who were fortunate to receive a good rain Monday morning. Permits are also being issued where farmers want to proceed immediately to graze their cotton acreage. All of the permits are due to arrive from Washington on most any train. It is believed that by the end of the week, genreral plow up work will be going on all over the county. The contracts are all accepted, and it is only a matter of a few days wuntil every farmer will receive notice to begin destroying his cotton. Guadalupe County farmers have contracted to destroy 30,274 acres. This averages a little better than 16 acres per contract. They will be paid $336,000 for this cotton besides holding the option on 4,766 bales of cotton at 6 cents per pound. Farmers are anxious to complete their contracts with the government and impatient to get their plow up work under way. All Guadalupe County contracts have been in the Washington office 10 days to two weeks. They have been checked through, and the plow up permits will soon be here. Farmers are asked to be patient a few days longer. The following are community committees who served in making the estemates and contracts; as far as possible these same committemen will be used in the inspection work which will follow the plow up: BARBAROSSA: Egon Schriewer, Henry Schriewer, R.
