Darren McCathern, quohadi@arn.net TX Panhandle Archives Manager ************************************************************************ November 15, 1996 - Cable TV has come a long way since Bob Magness started his business some 40 years ago in Memphis Texas. Working out of his kitchen, Bob ran the wires personally from pole to pole, while his first wife stayed at home and ran the operation from their kitchen. They had 700 subscribers. He later merged his two business, Community Television Inc. and its microwave distribution partnership, Western Microwave Inc., to create TCI when he moved to Denver in 1968. Now TCI has over 14 million subcribers (including yours truly). Bob was listed as one of the richest men in Colorado, worth an estimated $1 billion! Bob had contracted lymphoma cancer and was being treated at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville when he passed away at the age of 72. Source: CJ Networks - Kansas
