Gloria B. Mayfield, LadyTexian@tcainternet.com TX Tombstone Project Manager Submitted by Bill McClure wmcclure@pdq.net ************************************************************************ Gears Family Cemetery, Greens Bayou ,Harris County, TX The Gears Family Cemetery is on private property in Harris County, Texas. It is located about 100 yards south of the south bank of Greens Bayou about 1/4th mile west (upstream) of Northborough Blvd. This is west of I-45 and north of the Sam Houston Tollway, north of the city limits of Houston. As of January 2000, the cemetery has not been maintained in many years. It has been reclaimed by the woods. In fact, as I was bird-watching in the woods I found the cemetery when I fell into it when I tripped over the barbed wire fence that once enclosed it. Bill McClure wmcclure@pdq.net The primary stone marker has clasped hands on top and on the east face the text is "IN MEMORY OF THE GEARS FAMILY GONE BEFORE US." On the west face the inscription is "IN MEMORY OF THE SLACK FAMILY GONE BEFORE US." Another stone has been inscribed "HARMAN GEARS JULY 19, 1880 SEPT 1, 1921 AGE 41 YEARS AT REST." Another stone is inscribed "LEONI MERLE GEARS MAR 15, 1925 MAY 24, 1931." There are several smaller shaped stones without inscriptions and several depressions in the soil indicating other interments.
