The Baptist Standard, Dallas, TX August 23, 1906
Houston Pastors' Conference. -- Present were Brethren R. D. Wilson, Geo. E. 
McDaniel, J. L. Gross, Carroll Smith, Chas. T. Alexander, T. C. Long, Elledge.  
Reports were:  Guam, Bro. Long filled the pulpit in the morning, preaching on 
Christian Work, 1 John 2:6.  Pastor Alexander preached at night on Tresspass 
Offering.  Preached at La Porte at 11 a.m. on "Christ the Way, Truth and Life," 
and at 4 p.m. on Seek Savior and Seeking Sinner, Luke 15. -- First Church.  
President Brooks spoke at 11 a.m. on Education.  Pastor at night on Christ's 
One Law of Life, Mark 1:31.  Two accessions by letter. -- Bishop Street.  No 
morning service.  Bro. Long preached at night on "The Comes of Jesus." -- 
Heights.  Pastor Smith preached, giving The Christian Home at Bethany.  Four 
accessions by letter. -- Clark Street.  Pastor McDaniel preached on "Unity of 
Spirit" and "The Conclusion of the Whole Matter" Preached  at Cross Timbers on 
Thy will be done." -- Tabernacle.  Pastor Ammons preached in morning and 
President Brooks spoke at night on Education. -- Almost all the pastors, in 
addition to a large number of laymen, had part in an enjoyable reception given 
on Saturday night by the Baptist Social Union in honor of Dr. Brooks at the 
parlors of the First Church. -- In street work Bro. A. Sessmus spoke at Market 
Square on Saturday night and Bro. W. E. Tynes at Court HOuse Square Sunday 
afternoon.  Good services at both hours reported.
