Brightwell, 79, of 1609 Kensington died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (December 19, 1945) at his home. He was born in Victoria County and was a lifelong resident of Texas. At 21 he began work as a cowhand on the old KO Ranch, now the Pierce Ranch, and came to Houston about 53 years ago. He was cashier for the Railway Express Agency for several years and clerk of the Eleventh District Court for 30 years until retirement last June, due to ill health. Mr. Brightwell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Brightwell of Houston, and two sisters, Miss Mamie Brightwell of Fort Worth and Mrs. Lyda Wilson of San Antonio. Funeral Services in the drawing room of Settegast-Kopf Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Friday (December 21, 1945) with Dr. Charles L. King officiating. Burial in Forest Park Cemetery.
