He passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005 peacefully at his home in Pearland, Texas at the age of 94. He moved to Houston in 1937 and immediate opened a variety store at 3217 Dowling. During his second year in Houston, he purchased a home in the Fifth Ward and joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He enrolled in Booker T. Washington Evening School in 1946 and graduated in 1950. Upon graduation he promptly enrolled in Texas Southern University where he studied in the evening for the next four years while maintaining a full- time job at Armco Steel. He ultimately became the first Black supervisor at Armco Steel and retired after more than 30 years of employment Willie Hall was a dedicated leader and distinguished citizen in this community. He has served on 3 different grand juries and numerous organizations. Some of the many groups that have benefited from his exemplary leadership, commitment and tremendous generosity, include but are not limited to: Business and Professional Men’s Club (50 + years), Boys Scouts of America District Commissioner (20 years), NAACP (30 years), YMCA (57 years), Board of Directors – South Central YMCA (18 Years), Frontiers of America (25 years), Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (66 years) and Antioch Deacon Board (55 years). He is the current chairman of the Deacon Board. Willie Hall’s faith in God was exemplified by the life he led. He joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church shortly after coming to Houston and was ordained as a Deacon in 1946. His passion was visitation and ministry to the sick and shut-in members of the congregation. He has attended Sunday school every Sunday until his recent illness. He loved to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with the class. He was always an encouragement and inspiration to his family and friends. Willie Hall was truly a man among men. He strived to be a role model for the youth with his emphasis on education and a strong work ethic. Willie was blessed with a caring church family, loyal friends and loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edna Thomas Hall. He is survived by a daughter Camilla Hall Jackson, and sons, James Hall (Stella); Willie M. Hall (Ida); and Fredrick Hall (Alda). His grandchildren who brought him great joy are Riki Moore Henry(David); Kelli Hall Barnett (Martin); Regina Moore; Feleshia Hall Sams; Fredrick Hall, II and Langston Hall. He had 5 great- grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may call on the family on Friday evening, May 13, 2005, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 10:00 am. Both services will be held at the Antioch Baptist Church, 500 Clay, Houston, TX.
