Miss Newton graduated from Jeff Davis High School and then the Houston Conservatory of Music. She received a B.S. and Master of Education degree from the University of Houston. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, Epsilon Conclave Sorority. She had been a teacher and principal with the Houston Independent School District for 42 years, retiring in 1972. Miss Newton was a member of Eastern Star Chapter #651 since 1941 and had served as past Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Worthy Matron. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Houston and the Fidelia Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Brittian E. and James M. Newton. Survivors include her brother, Hilton Newton and numberous nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visitation with the family 6-9 pm Sunday August 2, 1992 in the Seggegast-Kopf Drawing Room. Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:30 am Monday August 3, 1992 in the Settegast-Kopf Chapel with Dr. Boyd Wagner officiating. Internment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
