H. Ragland and wife, this city, and Hardy Chesser age 22 years son of J. D. Chesser and wife, who reside in Marietta, Cass county, 16 miles northeast of Daingerfield, turned over with them on the highway, 4 miles west of town, on Wednesday evening of the past week at 7 o'clock, the results of which were that the former recieved injuries from which he died in a few minutes afterwards, and the latter got severly unjured from the accident and was badly bruised up otherwise, but attending physicians say that he will recover. The two boys were headed for Cason and Chesser was driving the car. He had rounded the curve just this side of Boggy when he lost control of the machine and it swerved to the left of the road into a ditch nearby. He was driving possibly 40 or 50 miles and hour, and in attempting to steer the car back into the road, it turned abruptly to the north instead of going on west and turned completely over sideways. Both remained with the car when it turned over and the whole weight of same came down on Ragland, who was on the front seat, crushing the breast and body and causing almost instant death. Chesser escaped getting crushed but was thrown about fifteen feet from the car from where it finally landed. He was behind the steering wheel, which possibly saved him from getting fatally injured. Lon was one of Daingerfield's most popular and highly esteemed young men and it is with profound regret that The News has to chronicle his sudden and unexpected death. He was an exceptionally good boy and possessed those splendid charateristics that won for him the friendship and admiration of each and everyone. Thursday afternnon at 3 o'clock funeral services were conducted at the family cemetery in the city with Rev. W. A. Darden, assisted by Rev. H. B. Smith, after which the remains of the deceased were tenderly laid to rest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ONE KILLED, ONE INJURED WHEN AUTO OVERTURNS Special To The Times Herald Daingerfield, Texas, May 10 An automobile occupied by Lon Ragland and Hardy Chesser turned turtle on the Jefferson highway three miles west of here Wednesday afternoon.
