All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** VETERAN MAIL CLERK IS CALLED BY DEATH; ILL ONLY FEW HOURS Elgin Paul Randolph, aged 50 years, and for more than 30 years a railway mail clerk and resident of Houston, died suddenly at his home, 1437 Heights Boulevard, at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon (Saturday September 29, 1917). Mr. Randolph ran on the Southern Pacific between here and San Antonio. He came home from his run yesterday morning, feeling as well as usual. A few hours afterward he became sick and a doctor was called, but he died in about two hours. Acute indigestion is believed to have been the cause of death. One daughter, Mrs. L. E. Bailey of Port Arthur, survives and one son, John R. Randolph, of this city, Mrs. Dr. W. B. Griffin is a sister. The funeral will be held from the family residence at 5 o'clock this afternoon (Sunday, September 30, 1917) and burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Rev. John E. Green will conduct the services. The pall bearers will be E.J. Scott, Oscar McKnight, H.A. Shattuck, A.E. Bailey, Ben Baumgarten and Ed Sheffield.
