All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Dallas Morning News "Aged Texan, Who Was Mason for 65 Years, Is Dead" Special to The News May 21, 1922 Cason, Morris Co., Texas, May 20 J. W. Wardlow, 86 years old & for sixty-five years a member of the Masonic fraternity, died here. Mr. Wardlow was born Aug. 24, 1836 & reared five miles west of Daingerfield. He lived in five counties & never moved. First in Red River County, with Clarksville as the county seat; second, a portion of Red River County was cut off & Paschal County formed, with Daingerfield as county seat. Paschal County was abolished & it was then known as Bowie County with Boston as the county seat, as now. Then Bowie County gave land for Titus County, with Mount Pleasant the county seat, as now. Later Titus County was divided into Titus, Franklin & Morris. Mr. Wardlow was left in Morris County, where he resided until his death, & died in his own home in Cason. Mr. Wardlow joined the Masonic Lodge in 1857 at Daingerfield before he volunteered for service in the Civil War, where he spent four years as Lieutenant in Ross Brigade First Texas Legion, enduring the trials & hardships of crude warfare, having lived under three flags, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate flag & the Stars & Stripes. He was Justice of the Peace eighteen years in Precinct No. 5, Morris County, & an Odd Fellow & member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. He was the father of eight children, four boys & four girls, all living & with him at the time of his death. His children were J. W., D. T., & O. E. Wardlow of Cason, Texas, & John Wardlow of Pittsburg, Mrs. O. P. Jones of Midland, Mrs. W. I. Allison of Eastland, Mrs. Mary Evans & Mrs. J. J. Cason of Cason.
