All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************** HISTORY OF ANDREWS CEMETERY Andrews Cemetery located 3.0 miles south of Karnack, Harrison County, Texas, on the west side of highway 43, had it's beginning in the mid-1800's The earliest grave at the cemetery is that of Hanna A. Edwards who departed this life on the 15th day of February A. D. 1847, in the 28th year of her life. Hanna was the widow of George W. Edwards and was the land owner of this property before December, 1845. Her properties were auctioned to settle debts left by her late husband George. Mr. Cephus K. Andrews of Marshall, Texas was the highest bidder and bought the property. Mr. C. K. Andrews donated the land that became Andrews Cemetery. This older section of the cemetery where Hanna A. Edwards is buried is now closed to future burials. There are 104 grave sites in the section. The remainder of the cemetery property which constitutes the majority of the property was purchased by the Andrews Cemetery Association from Mr. T. J. Taylor. The Andrews Cemetery Association has it's annual meeting and covered dish luncheon at 11:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of June every year. The Andrews Cemetery Association on this date conducts business and elects officers to the Board of Directors. The membership consist of individuals who own plots in the cemetery or have family members buried in the Andrews Cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kenneth R.
