Therefore I take particular pleasure in introducing him to you as a gentleman of the first order. You will soon discover that he is a man of talents and general information. I have been acquainted with Mr. DEAN since March 1832. By chance Mr. D. made himself a member of my family that year and since then has lived in Mississippi where he has been doing an extensive mercantile business. Has also had an establishment at Pensicola & has passed from one place to the other & occasionally called to see us. I mention these facts to show that my opportunity for an acquaintance is such as not to be mistaken. As such the introduction to Mr. D. is not intended as a matter of courtesy or of form. Mr. DEAN has some important business to transact in Texas. If you can be of any assistance to him in arranging his matters, I request you to do so. You will find Mr. DEAN well acquainted with all the affairs of our Government which by request he will give you in detail. And to him I refer you for all public informaition. I will add that you will run no rist in Placing entire confidence in Mr. DEAN as a man of intergrity.
