TX - William Grimes Papers ¤¤¤¤¤¤ Montgomery Co., Texas Nov. 25th 1895 Dear Uncle:- Your letter was received yesterday and was very glad Indeed to hear that you was still In the notion to come and spend Xmas with us. You can ask all the questions you want. I will answer all I can. Mama was Miss Ann Springer before she married. Mr. Farmer lived about 2 miles south of us. He died about four months ago. He has three children living then, the youngest is married. I think he had the dropsy. He was sick for a year or two before he died. Mr. Rankin is dead and his wife living in Houston with her son. Mr. Nobles is living in Montgomery yet. His wife is dead. His oldest child, Mattie, married a man by the name of Yates from Georgetown. She died about a month ago and that like to killed him. Luma is the only one left and she has married since. He had 49 bales of cotton burnt up last week and got one of his ribs broke. He has had it all at once. We live three miles from town, south. Uncle Dick lives about two miles from us, west. The old home- stead is south. It will be best for you to come on to Conroe from Willis, it is not very far. The train comes in from Conroe about 2 clock in the evening. There is not any conveyance from Willis to Montgomery. Let us know what day you will be here and we will meet you at the depot. Stella living in town. Papa says that is is 8 miles from Willis to Conroe and 16 from Conroe to Montgomery. Tell your son that I will try to pick him out a girl by the time he comes. You never told me his name, Buddie the oldest boy, his name Juon, 18 years old, (note:-Perhaps this should read: "his name J. now 18 years old") I am 22 years old in March. Tell him that they can go together to see the girls. Buddie comes home from school with his every evening. Excuse haste and mistakes. Write soon to your loving niece Mary Womack.
