Swann Dead Stephen H. Swann after a short illness, departed this life Saturday, Sseptember 13th, 1902, at 6:45 a. m. Funeral from family residence, to Methodist Episcopal church South were services will be held at 3 p.m. today. Interment at Greenwood cemetery. Deceased was taken ill August 26th with typhoid-malarial fever and after an illness of 18 days succumbed to the dread disease. A death notice is ever a sad event to record, even when the deceased has lived the full allotted period of life and tasted of the sweet and the bitter, the defeats and the victories of life to the full, but when written of one so young, just entering on a life of bright promise, it is especially sad. Stephen H. Swann was born July 10, 1876 in Monroe county, Georgia, consequently was 26 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Marshall December 25, 1898 and except for a short time spent in South Texas for his health, has since resided here. He entered the Postal service as substitute letter carrier in this city in 1900, but resigned on account of ill health. He also worked in the T & P railway shops for a time. Later on July 1st, 1901, he was appointed clerk in the Marshall post office, which position he has filled ably and with credit up to his fatal illness. Stephen was a young man of exceptional promise, of a bright, joyous and happy disposition, ever thoughtful of those around him; with all a dutiful son, an affectionate brother and a warm friend. He was greatly liked by all those who knew him, and his friends are legion. Deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church South, the Epworth League, and was the Noble Grand in the Jno M. Gibson Lodge No. 13, I O O F. He was also a corporal in the Rudd Rifles, and a member of the Salamander Fire company. He leaves a bereaved father and mother, two brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss. While all the consolation his loving friends can tender to the bereaved family is but feeble we can only comfort them by looking forward to a reunion in that bright and happy land were there shall be no parting, and He shall wipe away their tears.
