Swann The funeral service of Stephen H. Swann, on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church was attended by one of the largest processions that has been seen in Marshall, on such occasions for many years. This, in a measure, shows the high esteem in which this young man was held. The Odd Fellows, the Rudd Rifles and the Firemen to which orders he belonged, all turned out to pay their tribute of respect and love to their deceased brother. The city band marched in the procession, rendering music suitable to the occasion. Mr. Swann was born in Monroe county, Georgia, July 10, 1876; joined the Marvin Methodist church in Georgia when about eleven years of age. He moved to Bartlett, Texas in 1891, thence to Edna, Texas, in 1894, and came to Marshall on Christmas day, 1898. He always moved his church membership with him, and belonged to the Sunday school and Epworth League, and his life conformed to his profession as a christian. He was in the service of the postoffice in Edna, Texas, and in 1900 entered that service in Marshall which position he held at the time of his death on last Saturday morning. Mr. Swann was always quiet and polite. He had the faculty of making friends and holding them. He was useful in the community, loving and devoted in the home, a son of whom his parents were justly proud. He had the confidence and respect of his associates in business. He was never obtrusive, yet genial in bearing. There was a quiet dignity in his manner that showed reserve force in his character. The calm bright Sabbath afternoon in those still hours we laid his body to rest, was em__ematic of the life and character of the man. After the impressive services of the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, the Odd Fellows took charge, and after their beautiful ceremony, he was buried with military honors. We join the entire community in sympathy for the bereaved family.
