H. Swann, who was shot last week by Mr. Forrest McNeely in Griffin (Spalding Co), died Friday (May 28). Mr. Swann was in the act of marrying Mrs. Lillie McNeely, the mother of Mr. Forrest McNeely, when the latter shot him to prevent the marriage. Mr. Swann was well known to the people of Pike county. He was reared in the community north of Barnesville. His body was sent to Marshall, Texas [Harrison Co.], for burial. McNeely is in jail in Griffin and his trial will probably occur at the August term of the Spalding Superior Court. He is found in the 1860 > 1880 Census of Monroe Co., Georgia, which boarders Pike Co. & Spalding Co. to the east.
