All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************* Fannie Howard Heiskell - June 11, 1937 San Marcos Daily Record, 13 June 1937 Funeral at Kyle For Mrs. Fannie Heiskell Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Kyle Sunday for Mrs. Fannie Heiskell, 77, who died in a San Antonio Hospital Friday. She was the wife of William H. Heiskell, who was killed by lightening on June 11, 1888, exactly 49 years to the day before Mrs. Heiskell died. Shortly after her husband's death Mrs. Heiskell moved to Washburn, Texas near Amarillo. She moved to San Antonio in 1900 and lived there until death. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Bessie Rorex of Oak Creek, Colorado and H. H. Heiskell of Pampa, Texas. The Rev. F. B. Sampson, pastor of the Kyle Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was held in the Kyle Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Messrs. Stephenson, Kercheville, Nance, Bunton, Wallace, and Haupt. The Tabor and Slatton Funeral Home of San Marcos had charge of the funeral. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Fannie Howard Rice Heiskell was born in Boone County Kentucky on July 29, 1860 to Joel C. Rice and Mary Elizabeth James. The Rice family migrated first to Clay County Missouri and then to Hays County Texas about 1876. She married William Hurst Heiskell in Hays County on 20 Sept. 1882 and the couple owned Hays County land near the Science Hall Community where he was a farmer. Several family members, both Rice and Heiskell, are buried in Kyle Cemetery South of Kyle on Stagecoach road. William Hurst Heiskell was the son of Isaac Noble Heiskell and Martha E. Muse. Isaac married, second, Anne Elizabeth Stump. Isaac, Anne and his children migrate to Hays County and made their home near Mountain City and Elm Grove Communities. They are though to be buried in Cocke Cemetery (aka Elm Grove Cemetery) in Hays County. The surname Heiskell is often found misspelled as Heiskill in Hays County records. ---
