Smith, aged 76, for more than 30 years a citizen of Hays county, died of cancer at his home, 12 miles northwest of Kyle, Friday and was buried in the Butler cemetery, near his home. He leaves a widow and 15 children. Mr. Smith was a member of the Fourth Texas infantry, which served in Longstreet's division. He was captured at Gettysburg, imprisoned at Fort Delaware, where he remained until the close of the war.
