She married John Drayton Pitts in approximately 1821 at his family home in the Baldwin/Washington County area. They moved to Stewart County a few years later where Pitts became a land speculator and started a school for girls. During a severe depression during the late 1830's and 1840's, Pitts left the country and headed for the Republic of Texas. Some of his poignant letters to his wife are in the holdings of the San Marcos City Library. Eliza had 11 children, only 3 of which made it to adulthood. She died at age 49 at their home in Stringtown, just south of San Marcos on the Hunter Road.
