All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Dr. Dudley Payne, Dentist, Athens, Texas Phillip Payne was the name of the doctor’s grandfather. He lived in Georgia in an early day but came to Texas. he was the father of Joseph B. Payne, who was in turn the father of our subject. Joseph was born and reared in Georgia. He married Miss Mattie E. Harper in Magnolia, Arkansas. They had six children, four of whom are living. Two have passed to their reward. The mother also died twelve months since. The doctor was himself born February 2, 1874 at Kickapoo in Anderson county, Texas. He was shifted around some in his rearing and received tuition at the common schools at different points, but graduated in the high School of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He chose to be a dentist and desiring the very best equipment, chose the Baltimore college of dental surgery in which to take a professional course. He began his professional life as a dentist in 1896 and has maintained a good name for proficiency and tho’ young is one of the representative men in his line. March 26, 1901 he married Miss Fannie Jones and they are the happy parents of little Joseph Jones. The father of Dr. Payne was resident physician at Hot Springs for a period. Mrs. Payne is a niece of Mrs. W. L. Faulk. The doctor is a mason and an odd fellow, is of pleasing address and regarded as quite competent in his line.
