Miller, Sole Proprietor Athens Pottery Company. Athens, Texas The Millers were originally of Ohio. Joseph Miller was the grandfather and his son McKendre Miller was the father of P. E. McKendre Miller was born in Ohio but the family moved to Illinois when he was an infant and he was conqsequently reared in that state. Joseph Miller was a potter in later life and McKendre learned the trade in his father's shop and in turn owned and operated a shop himself and taught the trade to his sons so that Mr. Pearl Miller is strickly walking in the footsteps of his forefathers. His mother was a Miss Almina Rogers who was born in New York but reared in the state of Maine. The father and mother were married in 1857 and were the parents of 8 children 5 of whom survive. Pearl was the 6th child and wor born in Mo. May 25, 1869 and pratically it may be said he was born and reared in a potters shop and of course is acquainted with it in every detail. He was educated in the common schools of Mo. and Ill. He came to Henderson Co. in 1887, and entered at once in to his father's pottery which had been established about one year. On Oct. 23, 1893 he married Miss Ambrosia Allison who still survives. In 1898 he purchased the old family plant now known as the Athens Pottery Company. He rehabititated it and enlarged and improved it until it is probably the largest plant of its kind in the South.
