McCormack Survey. This land was purchased by James and Clarinda Lee (Brewster) Heddins from G. E. Attaway on October 4, 1870. Their son, James Marion Heddins inherited the land in 1881 and then sold it to M. A. Sims on Jan. 20, 1886. The two broken down tombstones identify the location of the four known people buried there: Joint tombstone with "In Memory of" inscribed above two clasped hands: James Heddins born Oct. 26, 1824 died Jan. 24, 1881 Clarinda L. Heddins [incorrectly spelled Clarenda on the tombstone] born Dec. 17, 1831 died Sept. 27, 1873 [James Heddins, a son of Isaiah (Josiah) Heddins (a veteran of the War of 1812) and Saloma (Carpenter) Heddins, was born in Delaware County, Ohio. James' grandfather was a veteran of the Revolutionary War from New York state. Clarinda, a daughter of Thomas and Martha Brewster, was born in Grayson County, Kentucky. James and Clarinda married on Feb. 28, 1850 in Coles County, Illinois, and moved to Van Zandt County, Texas in a wagon train in late 1853 or early 1854. James received a land grand of 160 acres of land at Pleasant Ridge in southern Van Zandt County on Oct. 11, 1859 after having lived there for three years.] Small joing tombstone with a dove at the top: Two Infants of I.L. & J.A. Heddins son, born Dec. 22, 1881 dau., born Jan. 1, 1883 died 1881 & 1883 [these were stillborn infants of Isaiah Lafayette Heddins and Julia Ann (Ballard) Heddins; grandchildren of James and Clarinda Heddins. The son was Isaiah and Julia's firstborn child. The infant daughter was named "Aaron" and was a twin sister of Mary "Effie" Heddins (who later married J. Marvin Adams)]. Besides the four known people at this small family cemetery, it is likely that two of James and Clarinda Heddins' children were also buried there in Dec. of 1872, although no tombstones are there to prove it. If that is the case, these two young people would have been the first to have been buried there, preceding their mother in death by about nine months: Thomas Jeffries Heddins born Aug. 5, 1852 died Dec. 15, 1872 Drucilla Adelia Heddins born April 6, 1854 died Dec. 17, 1872 It's also possible that their brother Oscar Winnfield Heddins is buried there. He apparently died between 1896 and 1900. Oscar was born July 28, 1859.
