Our school records in Henderson County are stored in the county clerk’s office. I have sent you a copy of what I found on my aunts and uncles and George Dixon, (my grandfather) a trustee in 1896—1879. My family came into the county in 1892. Families that have lived in a county since the 50’s and 60’s can find so much information. As a note of interest on the teaching certificate, Ambrose Dixon taught school and after having five children decided to become a medical doctor. He did by going to school one term and teaching one term. His family lived with my grandparents one year and then his wife’s parents the next year. If he made enough money the family would live with him in Texarkana while he went to school. The year Uncle Ambrose taught school at Clear Creek, he whipped all of the boys the first day. The boys had a habit of running the teacher off within a week or two. BUT, they had never had a Dixon. After that day, he had control of his class and taught his term. Later, a first cousin of mine was going to •teach at Clear Creek and she lasted about ten days.
