The Henderson County Woman’s Club will undertake the task, and in doing so, they invite the cooperation of parents of these boys in assembling data on their lives. Mrs. W. B. Smith is historian of the club and Miss Doris Robinson is chairman of the history department. Upon their shoulders will fall the task of compiling the history. In order to secure a list of those who lost their lives during the war assistance was asked for the Adjutant General’s Department at Austin. This department has supplied the list of names together with the list of names of parents of the boys. In a few days a letter will go out to those parents asking them to give such data on the lives of the boys that make the history complete. Once the history is complied is it planned to have it printed in book form and it will become a permanent record for future generations. In giving the list of those who lost their from his country the Adjutant General explains that the list is made up from the addresses given by the boys. In some instances, he states, boys may have gone from this county who lived across the line in another county and hence gave their address in that county. If this be true the name would not appear on the Henderson county list it is brought to his attention in case it does not appear below. Of the twenty-six boys from this county who lost their lives during the world war only four were killed in action. Two died on foreign soil. One died of wounds received in action, while the others died of sickness or disease in cantonments. The Woman’s Club desires a life record of all these boys because it was for them that the local library was instituted as a memorial.
