In going to press we overlooked the publication of the financial report of the county. It will appear next week. We trust that the candidates will not tax our patience to severely in long addresses on next Saturday One-half hour is long enough for one man. The young ladies should have a "leap year" party in town soon. It don't come but once in four years, and they should take advantage of it without delay. RELIGIOUS The Rev. Mr. Stamp preaches at the Baptist Church in Athens the 1st Saturday and Sunday in each month, Prayer meeting every Sunday night, conducted by the Pastor. The merchants of Palestine would add to their trade from this county, if they would fix up the bridges in the Mathews land and over Penson's mill race. It is sad misthke (sic) for the farmer to imagine that he can not send his children to school. Better live hard, if it be necessary, to educate them. We understand that the new mail route from Canton to Athens via Walton, VanZandt county, will soon be in operation. we are glad of this, and hope to see it started at once. Let it be so arranged as to leave Athens on Thursdays. We are glad to see that Hon. John H. Reagan, M. C., is trying to secure a mail route from Athens to Kickapoo. He will place the people of Henderson county under lasting obligations to him if he succeeds in this. No idleness should be indulged in by the farmers at this season of the year. It is the proper time to work, if there is such a time. Half the battle is completed in the preparation, if it be a good one. ----------------------------------- LEGAL ESTRAYS HENDERSON COUNTY Taken up by D. C. Brannon, posted before Jno. M. McDonald, J.
