From Wills Point Chronicle, Thursday, September 10, 1896: L. R. Parks of Athens has rented the corner brick formerly occupied by the Novelty Store and will open a complete stock of dry goods, clothing, notions, etc., the business to be a branch of the Athens house. Look out for some thing in the CHRONICLE from the new firm next week. Harry Flagg, left Friday for Malakoff, Henderson county, where he has permanently located and embarked in the drug business. His many friends here wish him an abundant success. From Wills Point Chronicle, Thursday, October 29, 1896: Hen Fruit and Goose Neck. Rusk, Tex., October 21. – R. D. Stokes, the colored Republican orator from Dallas, spoke at the courthouse here last night. The negroes flocked to hear him, and the room was packed. The windows were full, the doors were full and others stood on the outside. The crowd went wild. They whooped and yelled, with cheers for McKinley, Hobart and Kearby. The speaker showed his hat stained with ancient hen fruit, which he said was thrown at him while he was speaking at Tyler. He told the negroes that in the same town "Goose-necked Bill McDonald" was met by a free silver brass band.
