It was noted that La Lomita Cemetery was moved to the Central Dioceses Headquarters Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. HISTORY: La Lomita Rancho was formed from an original grant of Porcion 57 to Maria de Luna. This was the General Visitia of 1767. The Grant was in the jurisdiction of Reynosa. Maria de Luna exchanged this Porcion 57 by previous agreement to Jose Francisco Cantu for "El Guajolote" Porcion #80. Porcion 57 consisted of two leagues of pasture for grazing sheep and 12 Caballarias (of 33 1/3 acres each) and having frontage of the Rio Grande and 1500 veras containing a pool of water called "San Jose." July 18, 1794, Jose Maria Cantu, acting for his father, Francisco Cantu of Reynosa, conveyed to Juan Jose Hinojosa, also of Reynosa, the grant of land made to Jose Francisco Cantu in 1767, and now called "El Corral de San Jose," bounded on the north by vacant lands, and on the west by lands of Gabriel Munguia, and on the south by the Rio Grande, and on the east by the Porcion granted to Nicolas Bocanegra. A frontage of 30 cordeladas on the river and to a depth of 5 leagues. The consideration - $30.00. Much of La Lomita was purchased from the estate of John B. Bourbois (F. O. French, administrator). It was sold at auction 7 August 1883 with the only bidder being the Missionary Society of Oblate Fathers of Texas, P. F. Parisot, President, the Missionary Priest. To the west of the present La Lomita Monastery building, on the hill, are located monuments and plaques as follows: FATHER ALPHONSE FILLUNG, O.M.I. 1879 - 1939 LAY BROTHER FRANCOIS FORTIER, O.M.I. 1871 - 1942 SCHOL.
