Funeral Home Harrisonville Archie NOTE: Abbie Warren Hess passed away on December 9, not 10, near Harrisonville, MO, and was buried in Weslaco City Cemetery, Weslaco, Hidalgo County, Texas, next to her husband Joseph A. Hess. She was the daughter of John Warren and Sarah Jane Sayward. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Voices of the Valley The Voice of Sacred Memory Name Joseph A. Hess Born Aug. 28, 1863 Died April 1, 1929 Biography Joseph A. Hess was born near Lenark, Illinois August 28, 1863. With his mother and father, he moved to Parkersburg, Iowa in 1866. Not long after they moved to Cedar Falls. They resided there until he was twenty-one years old when they moved to a farm near Storm Lake in Buena Vista County. There he met Miss Verdie Warren, and they were married March 20, 1890. Five of their nine children were born here. They are Leona, Edith, Philip, Sarah, and Helen. While Helen was a small baby they moved to a farm near Jamesport, Missouri March 5, 1869, where their other four children were born. They are Libbie, Josie, Martha and Joseph Jr. His whole life was devoted to providing the comforts for his wife and children. He was always ready to help his neighbors and his friends were many. In 1920 he and his wife with three children, Joe, Martha, and Helen moved to Mercedes, Texas where he resided until his death. He was in ill health for almost three years continually growing weaker until death claimed him. During this time he knew there was no hope for his recovery and he expressed a desire as he could not regain his health he was ready to go. He bore intense suffering without complaint and left a blessing to his beloved wife, children and many friends. Services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge at the home near Mercedes April 3, 1928.
