Oct. 28 1957 Services Held for Mrs. Pettit Funeral services for Mrs. Leona V. Pettit were held Monday from the Weldon Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C. W. Long, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. George Wheeler, pastor of the Mercedes Church. Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Weslaco on Mile 5. Pallbearers were Bill Miller, Raymond Miller, Kirby Rohr, D. K. Wallace, Dick Norton, Dick Smith, V. C. Thompson and Truman Lyles. Mrs. Pettit, a Weslaco resident for 35 years, died in Mercedes General Hospital Monday after a long illness. She wa s the wife of W. Lee Pettit, longtime city employee. Mrs. Pettit, 66, was a member of the First Christian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Grover Todd Jr. of Weslaco; a son, Neal Pettit of Lincoln, Nebr; five sisters, Mrs. F. G. Richmond of Mercedes, Mrs. H. A. McKinzie of McAllen, Mrs. J. M. Wank of Houston, Mrs. C. M. McVey of Harrisonville, Mo, and Mrs. A. M. King of Oildale, Calif; two brothers, Philip Hess of Jamesport Mo. and Joseph Hess of Archie Mo.; and three granchildren. ================= NOTE: Funeral services for Mrs. Pettit were held on Tuesday at 3 pm rather than on Monday. She passed away on Monday at 7:00 am. Mrs. Pettit was the daughter of Joseph Arnold Hess and Verdie Abbie Warren.
