Born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Perkins Monday a ten pound girl. Mr Bob Williams and family visited friends in Bosque county Saturday and Sunday. O. F. Kissick and family visited his brother Bill near Whitney Saturday and Sunday. Charley Nelson and George Mans made a flying trip to Waco Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Mill spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hight. Dan Wilson spent Sunday with Carl Britt. John Manley was in Whitney on Business Saturday. Married Sunday November 8, at the home of the brides mother, Miss Minnie Francher and Mr. Buster Hight. Both are of most highly respected families. All join in wishing for them a happy life. Whitney Messenger Friday November 13, 1914 Huron News J. A. Cupp was in Hillsoro on Thursday. W. C. Connolly and Sid Ansley were in Hillsboro on Saturday. J. T. Heath went to Hillsboro Monday were he was to serve as a juror this week. C. F. Barker was over at his farm in the Yocham community on Thursday. H. C. Frazier and wife of Ft. Graham were Sunday guests of W. C. Connolly and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ban Terrell of Allen Bend visited relatives here Sunday and Mond. J. W. Moore and family spent Saturday night with George Pinckard and family near Whitney. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Connolly of Ft. Graham were guests of B. M. Frank and family Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Jewel Payne and little daughter, after a weeks visit to the formers sitser, Mrs. J. A. S. Bailey and family, returned to their home at Pursley, Navarro county, on Thursday. Jasper Holt of Roswell was here last week breaking land on his father's farm which is occupied by Mr. Terrell this year. John Reid and family came over from Peoria Saturday and spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Holt at Ft. Graham. They were accompanied home by Miss Lillian Love, who began teaching in the Peoria school Monday. Whitney Messenger Friday November 13, 1913 Mr. Robert Farquhar and Miss Phronie Hestilou were united in marriage Sunday evening, Rev. Cal Mahauin officiating. Robt. L. Twitty who resided four miles from Hillsboro, died last Thursday and was buried in Hillsboro Cemetery, Rev. M. T. Andrews conducting the funeral. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Barefield at Hubbard, died last week after a weeks illness with infantile paralysis. John Parham, a former Marshall of Hillsboro, died at Hobart, Okla., last Friday. He was a brother of Mrs. J. W. Prichett, of Hillsboro, who left at once for Horbart. J. M. Gaulding, a former resident of Itasca and Hillsboro, was found drowned in Corpus Christi Bay last Friday. R. M. Gaulding, cashier of the State Bank at Brandon, is his son, besides whom, a widow and five other sons survive. Joseph Anderson, for four years a resident of Woodbury, died at his home there last Saturday and was buried Mondy morning in Ridge Park cemetery at Hillsboro. A Wife and four children survive him. HILL COUNTY POSTMASTERS Washington November 10 - The post office department announces the appointment of the following fourth class postmasters for Texas stations: Robert Blocker, Brandon, Hill County: Mary Rankin, Bynum, Hill County: Ada H. Worley, Malone, Hill County: E. N. Mattox, Osceola, Hill County. Whitney Messenger Friday June 4, 1915 Mr. B. M. Martin, ages about 56 years, died Saturday at his home on the E. S. Davis farm, 1 1/2 miles south of Bynum. His funeral was held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by the Revs. Oaks and Daley, interment was in Bell Springs Cemetery. Oscar Morris of Godley, died Tuesday at the home of his uncle D. O. Morris, near Penelope. He was buried in the Penelope cemetery. Wallace Howard Murphee, aged one year died at the home of his parents near Vaughn Saturday and was buried in Bell cemetery Sunday afternoon. Rev. Fincher of Ft Worth conducted the funeral. Diving into Steagall's tank, three miles northwest of Penelope, Gerald Finley, aged 21 years missed the tank and struck his head on the bank Sunday afternoon, death was instaneous. He was a son of C. J. Finley and had a host of friends in the neighborhood in which he lives. Miss June Jamison was united in marriage to Mr. Willard Brannon last Sunday morning. Rev. Wm. McMahon performed the ceremony. (Yates News) O. Y. Brown and mother Mrs. T. B. Lane, moved to Hillsboro Monday where they will reside in the future. Blum regrets to lose this estimable family, but wishes for their success in Hillsboro, their new home. Messr. Tom and Virgil Shelley where guest of Jim Shelley and wife of Whitney Sunday. (Huron News) Last Friday was Virgil Shelley's birthday and his mother surprised him with a birthday dinner. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. John Daggs, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Shelley and children, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Crabtree and son and Tom Shelley. Virgil recieved several nice presents and all present wished him many more pleasent birthdays. Mrs. Salinie E. Hines at her home 8 miles east of Blum died, May 24, 1915. Aged 72 years. Whitney Messenger Friday June 11, 1915 Frank Daggs and family of Port Lavacca spent las week with relatives here. (Huron News) Mr. Barker of Yocham was at the bed side of Mr. Heath from Friday until Sunday. Whitney Messenger Friday June 18, 1915 Mrs. R. J. Shelley Killed in Accident Cleburne, Texas, June 13,- Mrs. R. J. Shelley, owner of two dry goods stores, one in Cleburne and one in Ft. Worth, was caught under her overturned auto at 10:30 o'clock this morning at a point this side of Ft. Worth and died from the effects of her injuries. Jesse Neville, a clerk in her Cleburne store, who had been driving her auto for only a few days, was driving at the time of the accident. He was also caught under the car, but was not dangerouly hurt. Jim Doby and James Miller of this city found the overturned car and rescued the parties. They were taken to Ft. Worth where Mrs. Shelley died later, and Neville went to a hospital. The body will be held at Ft. Worth awaiting word from Mrs. Shelley's son Herbert, who is at Coyote, Utah, with a surving party. The husband of the victim of the above accident was a cousin of our townsmen, T. R., J. W., J. M., J. H., and A. J. Shelley. Whitney Messenger Friday June 18, 1915 On last Tuesday morning at the hour of 3:30 the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Truman Shelley were made glad by the arrival of their firstborn, a girl. After few moments had lapsed a hushed silence hovered over them, and the announcement was made that their baby had been called home. Another of God's unsolved mystries, yet when the Grim Reaper came these fond parents said "Thy will be done." The funeral was from the residence of the mother's parents Mr and Mrs. W. J. Rape, and the little form was laid to rest in Bethlehem Cemetery Tuesday afternoon. There is a book on whose pages is described an everlasting reunion; to this Book we commend these parents and extend to them our sympathy. Whitney Messenger Friday February 7, 1913 W. B. Huddleston died Wednesday of last week at his home in Hillsboro after a long illness. He was aged about 32 years and had resided many years in Hillsboro and Hill County. He leaves to survive him a wife being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Garrison. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Morris after which the A. F. and A. M. and I. O. O. F. ladges to charge. Whitney Messenger Friday Febuary 14, 1913 Alice the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Odom, died this morning at 6 o'clock at the family home No. 103 Anderson street after a short sickness. The little girl was 11 years, 10 months and 15 days of age and was an unusually bright and lovable child, and her death is a great bereavement to the parents and all those who knew her. The remains were carried to a point near Whitney for burial. (Cleburne Enterprise) Whitney Messenger Friday Febuary 1913 Jim Applegate Suicides About 2 o'clock Tuesday morning Jim Applegate who lived east of Blum, lighted his lantern and went to the barn to feed. His wife thinking his stay was to long went to investigate and found him hanging in the barn where he had committed suicide. For the rash act the cause is unknown. He was about 54 years of age and a very prominent citizen, leaving a wife and several children. The body was buried Tuesday afternoon in the Blanton cemetery. Whitney Messenger Friday Febuary 28, 1913 Stell Merrell, the little 2 year old daughter of Mr and Mr.s J. E. Brannen, died from a complication of diseases surperinduced by whooping cough. She was sick only a few days. M. V. Anglin this week recieved a letter from his aunt, Mrs. Lucinda Davidson of Filmore, Ill., who has now reached a ripe old age and has quite a large family. She is 86 years of age and has twelve children, six of whom are still living. She now has forty-six grand children living, sixty-three great-grand children and two great-great grand children. She is still strong and healthy and promised to live a hundred years at least.
