(Gene) Braley of 804 East Adams Street, Itasca, passed away Tueday morning, November 25, in a Hillsboro hospital. Mr. Braley was born in Gonzales, Texas, August 31, 1890, the son of the late Thadus L. and Sarah Logan Braley, pioneer residents of Itasca. He was affectionately known to his grandchildren and friends as "Poppie". He moved to Itasca with his parents and family in 1904 and had been a resident here since that time. He was an employee of the Itasca Cotton Manufacturing Company from 1904 until 1952. For many years he held the position of overseer of the Weave Room at the Mill. Mr. Braley was a sports enthusiast and as a young man was an outstanding baseball player. Mr. Braley married Miss Nannie Lee Cole in Itasca on August 6, 1908. They were married by the late Judge L. F. Stanley. Mr. Braley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church having joined when he was a young man. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, November 26 at 2 PM in the Clayton Kay Chapel in Itasca. Rev. Nelson Hawkins and Rev. James Blackwell were the officiating ministers. Interment was in the Itasca Cemetery under direction of the Clayton Kay Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Odell Martin, Ben Edney, Tom Alverson, Frank Davis, C. E. Bruton and Jack Littrell. Survivors include one brother, Hubert Braley of Itasca; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Powers and Mrs. Stella Samples both of Itasca; one son, D. L. Braley of Dallas; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Lurline) Wilson of Corsicana, and Mrs. Evelyn Davis of Itasca. His wife preceded him in death on January 29, 1972; also a son, Travis Braley, on August 3, 1940. There are nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
