Ardis, age 73, passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 24, 1934, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dowe Harris, at Overland, following a stroke Saturday night. His wife passed away exactly six months ago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nonnie Russell, Commerce, and Mrs. Vergoe Harris, Overland; one son, Julius Ardis, of Gafford Chapel, and one brother, Julius, of California. One daughter, Miss Omar (sic) Ardis, passed away seven years ago. Funeral services and burial were held at Gafford^Òs Chapel, conducted by Dr. J. Sam Barcus. He was a native of Kentucky and came to Texas with his father^Òs family early in life and settled in Gafford^Òs Chapel community where he has lived over half a century. (Hopkins Co. Aven, south of Cumby, after a lingering illness with the great white plague. She was 27 years old and is survived by her husband. (Hopkins Co. Echo, June 27, 1919) Later reported - Mrs. Eulalia Brumley, nee Eulalia Aven, was called to her home in Heaven June 21, 1919, after several months of immense suffering. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Cumby for 12 years. Eulalia was born Oct. 26, 1891, and married Sept. 8, 1912. Her lifeless form now rests beneath the cold, cold clay of the Gafford Chapel cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. McPhail and Rev. Rogers.) F. Bradshaw, father of Bob Bradshaw, and well-known citizen of Hopkins county, died suddenly at his home in Miller Grove. He had been suffering from his heart for six years, but was in usual health when he arose early in the morning and went to the barn to feed his stock.. Not returning for some time, Mrs. Bradshaw became uneasy about him and went to make an investiagation. She found him dead in the corn crib, where apparently he had fallen and died without a struggle. She was a native of Hopkins County and her body was conveyed to that place in a Riddle funeral car where funeral services were held at Ridgeway church with burial in Gafford Chapel cemetery. Survivors include her husband, her father and mother, Mr. & Mrs. Will T. Cowan of Ridgeway; a sister, Miss Ruby Nell Cowan; and four brothers, Joe C. Echo, Fri., Feb. 22, 1935) Gregory, Spencer - 1860 - 1939 (Obituary - Spencer Jeffeson Gregory, age 79, pioneer citizen of Hopkins County, died at the family home in the Mount Sterling community Thursday morning. He had been in failing health for several weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at Gafford Chapel, conducted by Rev. Clark H. Russell, pastor of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church. He was born in Chillicothe, Mo., on April 22, 1860. He moved to Texas while a young man and married Miss Fannie Goff of the Scatterbranch community in Hunt county. The couple celebrated their fifty-first anniversary last November. Nine children were born to this happy union, eight of whom survive with their mother. The daughters are: Mrs. Perry Odom, Gafford Chapel; Mrs. Henry Young, Ridgeway; Mrs. Ida Hooper, Sulphur Springs; Mrs. Monroe Cannon, Sulphur Springs; Mrs. Ben Dodd, Mrs. Earl Satterfield, and Miss Mary Kate Gregory, Fort Worth. One son, Marvin Gregory, who lives at home, survives. Lawrence Gregory, another son, died several years ago. Two brothers, Howard Gregory and Knight Gregory, Vivian , La. Three sisters, Mrs. W. Y.Goff, Commerce; Mrs. Nellie Hargrave, Ardmore, Okla.; and Mrs. Will Williford, Hillsboro, also survive. J. Lyster, Wednesday night on the 4th about 12 oclock. Mrs. Gafford was taken sick Saturday afternoon with a severe chill and gradually grew worse all the time. She was well advanced in years, having passed her 84th birthday. She came to Hopkins County in 1859 and had lived here ever since. Ramey died suddenly at his home on Van Sickle street, Sunday at 12:30 p.m., after having suffered from Bright^Òs disease for almost a year. He was born in Montgomery County, Tennessee, in 1840 (sic), and moved to Hopkins County in 1867. He married Miss Bettie Lowe in 1869. He was married again to Miss Eoline McCorkle and eight children came to bless this union, six of whom survive. He became a member of the Methodist church in his early boyhood. Revs. Mountcastel, Bryan, and McClure conducted a short funeral service at the family home Monday, and another service was held at Gafford Chapel where burial occurred. The remains were laid to rest with Masonic honors. (Sulphur Springs Gazette, Fri., May 20, 1910) Ramey, Eoline E. - b. 13 Mar. 1852, d. 10 Jan. 1930 (Obituary - Mrs. Ellen Eoline Ramey died Jan. 10, 1930, at her home in Sulphur Springs, on Church street. She was born near Water Valley, Mississippi, Mar. 13, 1852, and came to Texas with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. L. H. McCorkle, in the early sixties, and during her childhood and young womanhood lived in the Forest Academy community in Hopkins County. On Dec. 24, 1871, she was married to R. N. Ramey and to them eight children were born, one died in infancy, and another, Mrs. Norman Houston, died almost 23 years ago, while six children survive her. These are: Elmer H. Ramey, Whichita Falls; Marvin L. Ramey, Denton; Robert A. Ramey, Miss Maude Ramey, and Tom J. Ramey. Sulphur Springs; and Royal R. Ramey, Electra. The following brothers and sisters also survive her: T.C. McCorke, Mrs. M. D. Ardis, Mrs. S. A. Hicks, and H. C. McCorkle, Sulphur Springs; Mrs Mollie Patman, Chickasha, Okla.; and Robert L. McCorkle, Ranger, Texas. At the age of eleven she gave her heart and life to God and the church. For 21 years she had lived in Sulphur Springs. Almost 20 years ago her husband went on to glory and left to her the loneliness of widowhood. After the funeral services, which were held in the First Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Lehnhoff, her body was carried to the cemetery at Gafford Chapel and placed beside the dust of her sainted dead to await the resurrection morning.) Mr. Taylor had been in bad health for some time, suffering with a leakage of the heart. Recently he moved with his wife from town out to his son-in-law^Òs to spend the winter, as he was unable to do anything around the home. He was more than seventy years old and had lived in Hopkins County for the past fifty years. He is survived by his wife and two sons and three daughters, his first wife having died many years ago.
