DeBord's Life - Letter to the Daily-News Telegram 1930 Dear Editor of the Daily-News : I wish to write a few words to tell you and the many readers how much I enjoy your good paper and especially the editorial, which are always so full of wit and humor. Guess the reason I like them so well is because I like the editor. My children subscribed for the paper Dec. 4, 1930, that being my 79th birthday anniversary, and had it sent to me as a present. I want to thank them again for their thoughtfulness. They couldn^Òt have given me anything that I would enjoy more. I was born in Alabama, December 4, 1854. My parents moved to Illinois when I was three years old; stayed one year then moved to Missouri, about twelve miles from the Iowa State Line. We came through this country in 1857, going back to Alabama and in January of 1858, we came back to Texas and Hopkins County where I have been ever since. In October of 1875, I was married to Mary M. Craig, who has shared both my joys and sorrows to this day. We are both nearing the end of life^Òs pathway and all is well with us. The greatest blessing I ever received was Thursday after the second in August 1873, when God, for Christ^Òs sake, pardoned my sins. (Added by June E. Tuck) Mt. Sterling cemetery DeBord, J.
