According to the statements of those who have been investigating the matter, Mr. Grayson had driven out to the end of the row of cotton and had just turned to go back when some one fired on him from the rear with a shot gun. He was hit in the head and fell in his tracks. His 13 year old son was plowing only a few yards distance away. The boy ran home and notified his mother who returned to the scene in time to hear Mr. Grayson make a statement before he lapsed into a state of unconsciousness. He also made a statement as to who did the killing. Both Grayson and his son said the party doing the shooting was J. K. Freeman. Mr. Freeman is the step-father of Grayson and is about 77 years old. He denies that he did the shooting. Mr. Grayson died Tuesday and the remains were buried in the Greenview cemetery. Freeman came in after the death of Grayson and gave himself up and made bound of $5,000. (Hopkins Co. Echo, Fri., July 31, 1920)
