MOREHEAD - WITHERS At an early hour this morning, before the earliest risers thought of stirring, a carriage drove swiftly out Jefferson street and made its way to Mt. Vernon. In it was Mr. Charles J. Morehead, son of W. T. Morehead, a prominent jeweler of this city, and brother to Will Morehead, clerk for Jno. W. Foscue, and Miss Maggie Withers, daughter of Sheriff Withers of this county. The couple were going to Mt. Vernon to be married. They were accompanied by Harry Parker, of the firm of Parker & Son, lumber merchants. After a fast drive they arrived at Mt. Vernon and made application for a marriage license. The county clerk fearing something was wrong, told the couple to wait a few moments until he could go and get the necessary papers. He immediately went to the long distance telephone office and rang up the young ladies father, Mr. Withers. That gentleman on being asked if everything was all right, replied that "he supposed it was , as they had gone that far, tell them to marry and come back home." The County Clerk at once issued the licence to the impatient couple and they immediately retired to the residence of a Methodist clergyman. As the young lady is quite a favorite with all who know her and Mr. Morehead being well and favorably known in Mt. Vernon, a large crowd of friends of both parties assembled at the house of the clergyman to witness the ceremony. Promptly at 10:20 they joined hands and the words were pronounced which made them husband and wife. Immediately after which all who were assembled knelt in a word of prayer and blessing was invoked upon this couple that they might live and enjoy a prosperous life. After the ceremony the happy pair remained guests of friends until the 4 o’clock passenger came along, which they boarded and are now in Texarkana where the groom has a lucrative position. The Evening Gazette joins with their many friends here in congratulations and trusts that their journey through life will be a pleasant one.
