Don^Òt know how true it is. Thought it important enough to add to the site. If anyone has corrections to this information, please let me know and corrections will be made. John Speigle is buried on his farm now owned by Bert Anderson, father of Billy Anderson. According to the census, John Speigle was born in c1821 in Alabama, and his wife, Nancy, in Arkansas. They had a daughter, Hannah, who married John Kirby. Some people know the grave site to be on the old Kirby farm. John and Hannah Kirby are said to be buried at Gafford Chapel cemetery in an unmarked grave. John and Nancy Speigle are the great grandparents of H. K. White of Sulphur Springs. The following is an obituary of his son, Ben Speigle. Jim Kirby has received a message stating his uncle, Ben Speigle, of Matador, Texas, was killed there on Friday night by a crowd of drunken men who stomped his head, broke his jaws, stomped his eye out and broke his neck. He was a native of Hopkins County, having been born here and lived here for forty years. He was about 70 years of age, the son of John and Nancy Speigle, who were among the early settlers of Hopkins County, coming here 83 years ago and settled on what is known as Speigle Creek, six and half miles northwest of Sulphur Springs. Ben was the youngest child and lived here until about 30 years ago when he moved to Matador with his sister where he had lived ever since. He never married. (Hopkins Co. Echo, Fri, Dec. 6, 1935)
