They were shot by Jesse and Joe Wood. Both were buried, side by side, at Sherley with Rev. Slage of Brashear conducting the funeral service. These deaths were caused from the two deaths last August. Sheriff Bingham received a message from Jess Wood, from the home of his mother, Mrs. Laura Wood, stating that he shot the Stocktons and was ready to surrender. They found the Stocktons dead, sitting in their car, about 300 yards from their home and 150 yards from the Wood home. Delmar Stockton had been shot in the back and left side of his head. The father was shot in the back of the head. Officers found no gun on either of the dead men, nor in their auto. (Hopkins County Echo, November 21, 1919)
