Coats, 43, employee of the State Highway Department. Coats was helping unload a gravel car at Ridgeway, near here, when injured. He died a few hours later in a hospital here without having regained consciousness. He was born in Cumby, Hopkins County. He joined the highway department four years ago. He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Josie Coats of Greenville; a daughter, Miss Belv Inez Coats; a son, Elmer Eugene Coats; two brothers, Henry Coats of Greenville and Frank Coats of Caddo Mills, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Chadwick.
