DEVANNE, JOHN - Was a Texas pioneer about 70 years old. He was the father of
Mrs. Cort Mathis of Cumby. His home was in Delta county. He had long been a
sufferer from kidney and bladder troubles. Early last week complications arose
and an operation was deemed the only hope for prolonging life. Extreme age was
against him however, and he never recovered from the shock of the operation.
Mr. Devanne died Thursday of last week and was buried near his Delta county
home Friday. Mr. Devanne leaves a wife, a son, Ed Devanne, of Madill, Okla.,
and a daughter, Mrs. Cort Mathis of Cumby. (Cumby Rustler, Jly. 7, 1914)
