W. George was born in Heard County, Georgia, Dec. 3, 1829, and came to Upshur County, Texas, in 1851, and from there to this county where he died Oct. 29, 1911. As a member of Baxter^Òs Co., Randell^Òs Brigade, C. S. Army, he fought in the battles of Mansfield, Jenkins^Ò Ferry, and Pleasant Hill, where he acted well his part. When the war closed he returned to his home, and though all his property had been swept away, he was not discouraged, but went to work and continued to labor without ceasing, until the end came. He was quiet and just and wronged no man. His wife died some years ago. In his last moments he was tenderly cared for by his wife^Òs daughter and her husbamd. Mr. & Mrs. E. P. Rogers.
