R. - Cumby, Hopkins Co., Texas - Ap. 26, 1930 - M. R. Granberry, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Cumby, died at his residence. Mr. Granberry was born in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 30, 1841, and while attending the State University of that State in the spring of 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army, serving the entire conflict under the immediate command of Gen. Robert E. Lee. Shortly after the war he located in this State at Sulphur Springs, but in a short time came to this place, and he had resided in and near here for about sixty years. For about forty years he was engaged in school teaching and taught in many places in this and Hunt counties. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for more that fifty years and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge at this place longer than any other person. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Tom Harrison of Memphis, and Mrs. Bessie Allen of Breckenridge, and three sons, Eugene of Amarillo, Curtis of Corsicana, and Rodney of Celeste. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Cumby Saturday. (Dallas Morning News, Ap. 27, 1930)
