Her condition was reported serious. She died Saturday morning. She was attempting to start a fire in the kitchen stove to prepare dinner and in pouring coal oil from a can, the contents exploded, burning the home of Mrs. Harris, her household effects and those of her nephew, Pat Brewer, who, with his family, occupied a part of the house. Mrs. Harris is the mother of Miss Grace Hogan of Sulphur Springs and Mrs. J. S. Holland of Mt. Vernon. The body was carried by Tapp Funeral Home to the home of Mr. & Mrs. Callie McCauley of Weaver. Services were held at the Methodist Church in Weaver and then carried to Mt. Pleasant for interment by the side of her husband who died several years ago. She is survived by four brothers and four sisters as follows: B. E. Kennedy, Mt. Pleasant; Roy Kennedy, Rockwall; Emmett Kennedy, Sulphur Springs; Arthur Kennedy, Weaver; Mrs. J. O. Newman, Gladewater; Mrs. Madine Hampton, Naples; Mrs Sallie Caldwell, Fairlie; and Mrs. Oma Simpson, Sulphur Springs. She is also survived by her two daughters. (Hopkins Co. Echo, Oct. 26, 1934)
