All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** HOWARD, W. T. - Cumby, Hopkins Co., Texas - June 26, 1923 - The body of W. T. Howard, who died at his home in Durant, Ok., last Friday night, was brought to this place, his former home, for burial Sunday morning. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. E. G. Butler, pastor of the First Baptist Church in of Durant, assisted by the Rev. W. P. Ray, pastor of the Cumby Baptist Church. Mr. Howard was born in Alabama, Dec. 17, 1850. His father dying when he was small, his mother, in company with other relatives moved to Texas late in 1854, and on Christmas Eve of that year passed through this town then known as Black Jack Grove, and located in a few miles west of here, near the present town on Campbell. They moved from their Alabama home in ox wagons. With exception of the last few years, Mr. Howard had spent practically all his life since moving to Texas, in or near this place. He moved to Durant a few years ago where he was engaged in the retail grocery business. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Mitchell of College Station, Texas, and Mrs. Cora Cross of this place, and three sons, Charley, Ambrose and Leon, all of Dallas, Texas.
