He had been in ill health for several months but the immediate cause of his death was a stroke of apoplexy sustained early Fri. Although at one time a member of a robber band whose unparalleled career of crime kept the people of a dozen States in terror, Frank James had for more than thirty years followed the quiet life of a farmer. In 1882 after Jesse James had been shot and killed by Bob Ford, another bandit, at St. Joseph Mo., for a reward of $30,000., Frank James surrendered at Jefferson, Mo. After a hard fought trial he was acquitted and went to Oklahoma, where he lived with his mother for some time before coming here. (S.S. Gazette, Fri., Mar. 5, 1915)
