Kirkbride - (Tribute made by Eli Hargrave) Pioneer citizen of Hopkins County, died at his home on South Davis Street, July 30, 1934, after a lingering illness of more than two years. Funeral services were held at the Myra Wilson Chapel, conducted by Rev. H. R. Long. Interment was made in the City cemetery. He was born in Hillsville, Va., May 21, 1864, the son of William P. and Martha Kirkbride, both native Virginians. With his parents he moved to Missouri at the age of one and a half years. He came to Texas in 1881, where he has lived continuously except for a space of three years, when he returned to Missouri. Upon his return to Texas he married Miss Myra Brady, near Birthright, Oct. 14, 1888. To them were born five children, four daughters, three of which are living - Mrs. J. W. Wright, Sulphur Springs; Mrs. Edna Bown, Greenpond; Mrs. S. W. Bass, Kingsville, Texas; and one son, Elmer J. Kirkbride, Batesville, Ark. His first residence in Texas was in Hopkins County at old Fairyland. Later he moved to Birthright, later to Como, and had been in Sulphur Springs for 20 years. Here he engaged in business until his health failed him some two years ago. Both his parents are buried at Peerless, Texas. (Hopkins County Echo, Aug. 10, 1934
