Lynch - (The following tribute to the mother of our fellow townsman, Mr. R. G. Lynch, is from the pen of Mr. C. O. James, and published in a recent issue of the Sulphur Springs Gazette.) Mrs. James D. Lynch, formerly of this city, died at Austin, Texas, early Monday morning at the home of her son, Julius C. Lynch, and was brought here for burial, her remains reaching here on the noon Katy train Tuesday. Her sons, Virgil and Charles Lynch of Monroe, Louisiana; Rufus Lynch of Lufkin, Texas; J. C. Lynch and wife of Austin, Texas; and daughter, Mrs. Maude Savage of Okolona, Mississippi, were present to attend the burial. Her daughter, Mrs. J. O. Creighton of Austin, was not able to be present on account of sickness. The remains were taken from the Katy station to the residence of Mrs. Mamie Hurley on College Street, and the funeral service was held at the Baptist Church, conducted by W. D. Thompson. The deceased was 81 years of age at the time of her death. She was the widow of the late Capt. James D. Lynch, soldier, historian, poet and scholarly gentleman who for several years lived in this city and who was buried here some years ago. Mrs. Hettie Cochran Lynch passed away October 15, 1917, burial in the Sulphur Springs Cemetery. (Her husband, James D. Lynch, died June 8, 1904)
