McLeroy was shot Friday night by John Bays at the home of Judge Hodge near Miller Grove. The weapon used was a ColtŐs revolver; several shots were fired, three of which took effect, one in the stomach, one in the side and behind the shoulder. McLeroy lived until Saturday night. Bays and McLeroy were brothers-in-law, McLeroy having married BaysŐs sister. McLeroy and family lived with John Hodge, and BaysŐ residence is only a short distance away. Both are young men, Bays age being about 22 and McLeroy 26. Bays surrendered to the officers and was brought to town and placed in jail. No statement has been made by any of the parties connected with the affair, though report says the trouble had its origin in domestic affairs. Report says that McLeroy attempted to criminally assault BaysŐ wife, and Mrs. Bays told her husband of the attempt. Bays went to see McLeroy about the matter, and the killing resulted.
