All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** From the files of June Tuck PATE, JOHN W. - An old citizen died at his home in the south part of town at 1:30 p.m. today. He was born in Bedford county, Tenn., May 14, 1833. He married Miss Sarah Wester in that state and moved to Sulphur Springs in 1859 and has lived here ever since. He joined the Christian church more than fifty years ago. He joined the Confederate army in 1862 and was an honored member of the camp at this place. He lost the wife of his youth by death and married Mrs. Fannie Ferrell about twenty years ago; she survives him. He has five children living, O. M. Pate, Abel Pate, Mrs. Mary Beck, Mrs. Love Ardis, and Mrs. Bob Kirkpatrickof Dallas. Burial was at the City cemetery. (S.S. Gazette, Fri., May 22, 1908)
