She was the widow of Captain John T. Roots, of the Confederate Army. Captain Roots was from Jefferson, Texas, and was a prominent Texas Mason and Knight Templar. Although Mrs. Roots had resided in Texarkana at various times, she did not make her permanent home here until 13 years ago when she moved here from Sulphur Springs to take up her residence in the home of Mrs. Case. She had resided with her brother, Captain T. S. Rogers, in Sulphur Springs. Captain Rogers also was a Confederate Army veteran. Her niece, Miss Barbara Rogers, also resides with Mrs. Case. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church here. Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Case, with the Rev. David E. Holt, rector of St. James Episcopal Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. Herbert E. Duenow, pastor of the Congregational Church. Immediately after the services here the body was taken overland for burial in the Oakwood cemetery in Jefferson, Texas. She was buried by the side of her husband in the family burial plot there.
